After All Springville

Ghent

For children and families

A colourful smokey little house made of cardboard, a table with legs, a frustrated fuse box, a pair of very long trousers and a man who just wants to take out the rubbish. The unusual cast of this family-friendly yet explosive piece by exuberantly creative theatre-maker Miet Warlop is like a cartoon come true. Yet the narrative of «After All Springville: Disasters and Amusement Parks» is actually a tragic one. It deals with the creeping decline of a community where something always goes wrong. Warlop stages this very contemporary story of failure with humour and great ease. The cardboard house spits out pink plastic tubes, the elegantly set table breaks down, the fuse box short-circuits and sparks. But the unconventional group always pulls itself together and tries to keep the continuous mishaps in check. But will they succeed in saving their little cardboard community from disaster?

Full of slapstick and humour, Warlop entices the audience into her sensational tableau vivant – and presents us with a mirror that is both hilarious and painfully clear. An effervescent adventure for the whole family! (se)
