Theater Spektakel @ Filmpodium

Jelena Jureša «Aphasia»

Some artists who perform at Theater Spektakels also realise works in other disciplines and media in addition to their stage productions. For example, Jelena Jureša and Renata Carvalho, whose performances are complemented with contributions for the screen. We will show these cinematic works during the festival in cooperation with Filmpodium Zürich.

Jelena Jureša’s three-part essay film «Aphasia» tells of racism and intolerance and exposes the banality and triviality of evil. From Belgian colonialism of the first chapter, Austrian race experiments and Heimat films in the second, the third chapter brings to life a well-known photograph by photojournalist Ron Haviv, which is dealt with in detail in the stage version of «Aphasia».

Following the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to exchange views with Jelena Jureša in a moderated discussion. (zts)
