KEMET (Black Lands)

Johannesburg
Asanda Ruda: KEMET (Black Lands)

The first dance solo by Asanda Ruda «KEMET (Black Lands)» resembles an emancipation of the self. In her impressive piece, she aims to overcome space, time and transgenerational identity. Beyond a pre-defined framework of cultural inheritance, Ruda focuses on the individual, ignores conformity and claims her own place in the world. «KEMET (Black Lands)» is an overt protest of the self, reflected in music and echoes of the past all the while moving towards new, possible states of being.
