The international exchange program «Maabara Exchange» has been bringing artists and organizations in East Africa and Switzerland into dialogue since 2021, a dialogue that is about possibilities of collaboration and mutual learning in the different cultural environments and art market economies and how this can be rethought and organized in more equal and sustainable ways.
The Maabara Atelier is an artist-led space of creative experimentation. Artists from the Maabara network have participated in Zürcher Theater Spektakel through guest performances, workshops, discourse and exchange programs as well as internships. The international exchange is supported by Pro Helvetia.
In the coastal town of Malindi in Kenya, Maabara is experimenting with a pop-up radio station that allows artists to connect and to share their work across distances. The «Midnight to Midnight Edition» gives insight into the work of Maabara and reflects on approaches to international exchange and the diverse experiences that emerge from it.
