Tamara Cubas

Offering for a Monster

Montevideo

What does a new generation need to prepare itself for in the face of climate emergency, wars, displacement, as well as other global crises? What does it need from other generations, from politics, from the economic system, from society? Tamara Cubas poses those questions as a choreographer and mother, but also as an ageing artist in relation to the young people who are coming of age in these turbulent times.

In her community project «Offering for a Monster», Cubas collaborates with a group of people between 18 and 23 from the Swiss dance and performance scene, all of whom are still in training. During a workshop, Cubas and the young adults create a contemporary dance piece that will highlight the urgently needed critique of educational institutions and canonised knowledge.

Cubas is determined to turn the tables and to listen. What do younger generations want and how will they get what they need? How can we better understand and support them, give them space and welcome them? And also, who is this «monster» that has been born into this millennium? What do we have on offer – and when will it devour us? (pt)
