One Song
Histoire(s) du Théâtre IV
Ghent«One Song» is exactly what it promises: one song, throughout the whole show. Then again, it is so much more. «One Song» is pure energy. «One Song» is life in all its power, fragility, and hardship. Athletic performers try to play this one song and are loudly cheered on by a euphoric group of fans. The exuberant mood is infectious: the spectators immediately root for the performers as they deliver a show that is somewhere between music performance and endurance sport.
Miet Warlop, a luminary in Belgium’s objecttheatre scene, has made a name for herself with her humorous shows. With «One Song», she has created a true masterpiece which continues to provoke the same reactions, namely, euphoria, elation and jubilation.
Its undertow is created by the entertaining combination of formal rigour, sport, fun, and a unique blend of humour and virtuosity. Warlop’s dissection of our high-speed reality into small bits and pieces and repeating loops, reflects our zeitgeist perfectly. A fantastic show between sporting mania, overachievement and the feeling that together we can overcome anything. A captivating experience with long-lasting effects. (se)
