Sinfonieorchester TiFiCo, Christof Brunner, Matthias von Hartz
Orchesterkaraoke
ZürichFor children and families
The festival 2023 closes with two musical evenings on the lakeside stage characterised by an incalculable potential for mass euphoria. «Orchesterkaraoke » feeds on two sources of inspiration: the literal translation of the word karaoke (= empty orchestra) and a small poster on the wall of a rundown bar reading «We believe social change begins with singing in a choir». The principle of this project with the politically explosive force described on the poster could not be simpler. The orchestra offers a repertoire of karaoke-standard pop songs. Members of the audience choose a song and perform it, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. This is probably the greatest singing experience of your life and the most generous offer of accompaniment ever made by a cultural institution!
«Orchesterkaraoke» originated in Zurich in 2006. Since then, the project has travelled the world, mostly realised by Matthias von Hartz with the Junge Symphoniker Hamburg under the direction of Jan Dvorak. Now it returns to Zurich, where Christof Brunner will conduct the Zurich symphony orchestra TiFiCo. Founded in 1996 as an orchestra for film and musicals, it has long since become an integral part of Zurich’s musical landscape. In addition to film music, it also plays to sold-out concerts of great orchestral works in the Tonhalle. (mvh)
