Khun Sreynoch & Ny Lai
Sronoh & Snow White
Phnom Penh, Siem ReapFirst, a piece about the atrocities committed by the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK), mostly known as Khmer Rouge, who mercilessly ruled Cambodia until 1979. «Sronoh» focuses on the women that were brutally murdered. This is followed by «Snow White», which deals with the current beauty craze of Cambodian women to be white, being put on a pedestal and being pressured into arranged marriages. The two works by choreographers Khun Sreynoch and Ny Lai are influenced by recent history as well as Cambodia’s present, which is overshadowed by rampant poverty. «Sronoh» and «Snow White» share a sense of urgency which is conveyed precisely through contemporary dance.
