Installations on the festival site

What’s in a name? / Public Dancefloor / Candy for the Mind / GetMatched

For children and families

In addition to the unmissable art collective Plastique Fantastique’s «LIVEBOAT» behind the main entrance and the video installation by Border Forensics in the two shipping containers in the immediate vicinity, there are various other installations to be found on the festival grounds – for example on the jetty or on the Saffainsel. They are small interventions that allow for different perceptions and encounters – and dance!

LARISSA METTLER

What’s in a name?

Every person has one. And yet hardly any two are alike. Names are not only a unifying element, they also show how diverse we are. The project «What’s in a name?» explores the meaning of names. In this installation, short videos can be played in which people tell where their names come from and what they mean. A simple, effective and touching work.

MARIA ANWANDER

Public Dancefloor

Dancing together outdoors at the push of a button? Thanks to «Public Dancefloor», an installation by artist Maria Anwander, this is not a utopia, but a fact. After flicking a switch under the Honrain bridge, sound and light conjure up a dance floor. For the duration of a song, a place is created where people can meet each other while dancing.

FRIEDERIKE HAUG

Candy for the Mind

For years, the artist and linguist Friederike Haug has been recording people in several countries saying their first names. This has resulted in an archive of over 600 recordings from which the sound installation «Candy for the Mind» is created. The artist reassembles the selection of those acoustic short portraits for each exhibition venue and thus offers the Theater Spektakel its very own «Candy for the Mind».

GetMatched

This tingling feeling when you look at each other. The dizziness just before you meet. The sleepless nights. The tears when it’s all over. The relief that it’s finally over. The anticipation to meet someone new. This tingling feeling… When was the last time you were in love? «GetMatched» - a convenient offer to feel in love for 15 minutes. «GetMatched» is an interactive computer game for one person. «GetMatched» questions patriarchal and capitalist mechanisms and asks about the personal understanding of love, beyond purpose, optimisation and heteronormative images of society.
