Basel Zaraa
Dear Laila
Birmingham«Laila, you are five years old now. You started asking me where I grew up and why we can’t go there. This is my answer to you.» These words to the daughter of the Palestinian artist Basel Zaraa are the starting point of his work «Dear Laila». The interactive installation emulates the now destroyed refugee camp in Syria where Zaraa grew up. One visitor at a time can access this extensive work. Using audio, photos and artefacts, «Dear Laila» tells a touching story about war, displacement and exile, about everyday life and resistance. (ab)
