Nicoleta Esinencu & Teatru-spălătorie
Sinfonie des Fortschritts
ChișinăuIn her latest creation «Symphony of Progress », Nicoleta Esinencu gives capitalism a musical and witty brush-off. Together with three performers, the Moldovan director and artist presents a politically resistant play full of irony and humour, which is also a strong criticism of the inequalities and exploitation mechanisms of our society.
Wearing orange construction outfits, the performers Artiom Zavadovsky, Doriana Talmazan and Kira Semionov stand on a minimalist black stage and hiss, speak, and shout into a microphone their dissatisfaction with today’s world. They critically examine so-called European progress – from New Age philosophies and consumerism to outsourcing and taskwork in the western European farming industry. If you have ever considered Europe’s perception of itself to be contradictory and hypocritical and impossible to translate into performance art, you should definitely attend this combined show of music and speech, with its crackling, humming and whirring soundscape. Whether it is on-stage yoga or tools transformed to produce a jarring drill concert – Esinencu’s not-quite-sosymphonic symphony is a packed, entertaining evening that completely sucks you in – only to spit you right out again.
